Lot Essay

Vittorio Emanuele III (1869-1947), King of Itlay from 1900-1946, styled Prince of Naples from his birth until his accession. He was proclaimed Emperor of Ethiopia in 1936 and King of Albania in 1939 but renounced both titles in 1943 and abdicated in favour of his son Umberto II in 1946. He married Elena (1873-1952), daughter of Nicholas I, King of Montenegro.
