Lot Essay

The majority of the images are portrait studies including Buddhist priests, Daimo, village children, tea pickers, farmers, Shinto priestesses and musicians. Views include the tomb of the seventh Shogun at Shiba, the Temple of Kwannon at Mizusawa, and the Imperial University of Japan. Two show damage caused by a major earthquake in 1896.
