These two children were the sons of Neuville, the Fermier Général. The seated boy wears a brown suit with full fronted breeches. The other one is in a Polish Hussar style uniform with a cap. Nothing is known of them. Carmontelle drew their uncle l'Abbé Neuville and said about him that 'there was no greater womaniser in the whole clergy of France'.
