Lot Essay

July-October 1789 "The plainness and simplicity of this edifice is more striking than the richness of its decorations: a circumstance seldom occurring in the gateways belonging to Mahomeddan princes". The fish emblem of the Nawabs of Oudh is visible in the plasterwork of central arch.
