The first circular with the arms of Pryce implaing More (?) in the center, the crests shown four times within early rose enamel cartouches on the rim, the second octagonal, with the arms of Lyell impaling Darley or Ireland on the rim, the center enamelled with a Chinese boating scene

Lot Essay

D.S. Howard illustrates an identical plate (op. cit., p. 994), and writes that this is the Biblical subject of Noah and his ark, with the bird on the bow holding the branch and Mount Ararat shown in the distance, also noting that Baltzar Lyell was a director of the East India Company 1723-40, Thomas Lyell a supercargo 1732-57, and that Captain Lyell of the Wyndham sailed home in 1733 with a private cargo including 910GBP of "Chinaware"
