Wu Shujuan learned painting from her father, Wu Hongxun, and excelled in landscape and bird-and-flower compositions. In Shanghai, she was favorably compared to Wu Changshuo 1875-1927) and the two were termed the "Two Wus." Her work was further heralded when one of her paintings was chosen for inclusion in an international art exhibition in Rome in 1910.
