CÉSPEDES Y MENESES, Gonzalo de (1585?-1638). Primera parte de Historias peregrinas y exemplares. Zaragoza: Juan de Larumbe, a costa de Pedro Ferriz, 1623. 4° (186 x 130mm). Larumbe's device on title and p5 verso, woodcut armorial on A8v. (Browned and waterstained, margins close cut with occasional loss of catch-letters and words.) Later tree sheep with gilt supralibros and flat spine with repeated fleuron, red edges (one corner repaired, a little rubbed and scuffed, a few wormholes, spine darkened). Provenance: José Ferra (inscription on title) -- Pedro Salvá (supralibros) -- purchased from José Porter, 1957. FIRST EDITION of this collection of six novelas. POLO, Gaspar Gil (1519-1585). Los cinco libros de la Diana enamorada. Brussels: Roger Velpio y Huberto Antonio, 1613. 12° (123 x 66mm). Woodcut opening initials, type ornaments. (Closed tears into text in quires I and M, smaller repairs elsewhere, P7 soiled at corner, occasional creasing.) Red morocco by Brugalla, 1941, gilt spine-lettering and supralibros, gilt turn-ins and edges, marbled endpapers (tightly sewn). Provenance: purchased from José Porter, 1941, then rebound. Early edition of 'the best pastoral novel in Castilian after the Diana of Montemayor' (OCSL). Joan Mey was its first publisher in 1564. Palau VI, 102078; not in Goldsmith. (2)
