Lot Essay

See previous lot.
These drawings represent two of the ten children of Jens Stephan Heger and his wife Eline. Eline Marie, a future painter, was born in 1808 and was ten when the drawing was made a few months before Dahl left Copenhagen. As Juliane Sophie was born in 1815 and her portrait was probably made at about the same time as her sister's, the inscription added later on the recto appears to be misleading.
