pencil and watercolour on card
inscribed on the reverse in ink, 'The Hon.ble Mr Trevor' and in pencil, 'large Bracelett ipse 15 [d]ark Blue Coat'
oval, 2 1/8 in. (55 mm.) high, rectangular gilt-wood frame
A printed label on the reverse erroneously reads 'Sketches & Studies for Miniature Portraits by John Smart THE PROPERTY OF MRS. BUSTEED GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER OF THE ARTIST'.

Lot Essay

The 1937 sale catalogue suggested that the Hon. Mr Trevor possibly referred to Hon. John Trevor-Hampden (1749-1824), later 3rd and last Viscount Hampden of the 1776 creation.
