A study for a picture in an Italian private collection (Simone Cantarini detto il Pesarese 1612-1648, exhib. cat, Bologna, 1997-8, no. I.23) for which many others are known. The present drawing in particular resembles one in the Courtauld Institute, London (inv. 2029, M. Mancicotti, Simone Cantarini il Pesarese, Pesaro, 1975, p. 241, fig. 176.)
