Signed Coirier à Clermont, third quarter of the 19th Century
With blued sighted fluted octagonal barrels, patent breeches engraved with rococo decoration and numbered respectively '1' and '2' in gold, tangs en suite and each incorporating the blued back-sight (one retaining screw damaged), stepped locks engraved en suite and signed in gold, iron mounts with further rococo engraving and including shaped pommels each with chiselled bud finial, ebony half-stocks (one butt cracked, one fore-end repaired) carved with vine branches and rococo motifs, all in relief on a stippled ground, fluted butts, and much original finish (some surface rust and minor pitting): in their original fitted mahogany case lined in blue velvet, with accessories (turnscrew missing, bullet mould associated), the lid with gilt signature 'Anc.ne M.on Marquis B. Coirier Suc.r 4 Boul.d Des Italiens Paris', the outside inlaid with brass stringing (some losses) and central brass escutcheon (minor damage to lining, partitions, and some accessories), Liège proof
