With tapering double-edged blade etched with strapwork on each side, and ivory hilt comprising fluted downcurved shell carved with acanthus foliage in relief, partly fluted 'fish-tail' pommel, and plain grip of diamond section widening toward the centre, in its ivory scabbard, the front finely carved in relief with the Dance of Death, the tip carved on each side with a human face in relief between stylised snail-shells
