Frank Schilling
At the young age of 38 Frank Schilling has taken the domain business by storm with the founding and success of his Cayman Islands based company, Name Administration Inc. He entered the business in 2002 when many believed that profit from domain names had been exhausted. He details his work, his life and his views on his popular, newly-created Seven Mile Blog.
Schilling was born in the small town of Teubingen, Germany and his family later moved to Canada in 1971. After graduating from high school he enrolled after a few years in film school in Vancouver, following on a love of television and video. After a brief stint in Los Angeles, where he tried his hand at screen writing, Schilling returned home to Canada. His career started with selling real estate and building houses. Through this line of work he met his wife, Michele and the two married in 1996.
Four years later Frank Schilling first encountered the business of domain names in 2000 when reading an article in the local paper. He was intrigued and his life changed. Schilling began to earn revenue from affiliates 24 hours a day by placing their links on his landing pages. After the .com bubble burst in 2000 opportunity then arose to buy "good" domain names that had previously been too pricey and were now often not renewed due to owners not meeting the fees. Schilling gambled and won. Working with dogged determination he acquired over a quarter of a million domains such as Antartica.com, Chapter11.com and Diamond Wedding Rings.com. Today he is the name in the domain business and maintains the #1 domain portfolio in the world.
The Leo Collection; Thirty-One Sophisticated Wristwatches Curated by Frank Schilling
As lions are regarded as the king of beasts, the sign of Leo represents the most dominant, creative and extroverted of all of the zodiacs. They lead; they do not follow. They create; they do not imitate. They set trends; they do not fall in with anyone else. They blaze the trail and explore. What better description could fit the technically superior, adventurous, creative and fun aspects of the brilliance of modern watchmaking. Frank Schilling, a Leo by all definitions, chose the 31 watches presented here to exalt the horological arts of today. These watches are the leaders, the kings, the lions. Each one can dominate not only a day, as we suggest here, but your year, your decade and your collection throughout time.
It is not only the sign that evokes power, majesty and grace but also the month it encompasses. After July was named for Julius Caesar, August was the second month to be named after a person (previously called Sextillus), Caesar's grandnephew Augustus. The month was also lengthened to match its predecessor at 31 days. Christie's is proud to present 31 watches for the 31 days of this majestic month, a month of adventure; named after an emperor and representing the sign of the lion.
