3 parts, 4° (202 x 136mm). Each part with separate title, first title printed in red and black, woodcut diagrams. (Some light browning and spotting.) 18th-century calf-backed boards (head and tail of spine chipped, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Carlo Moruzzi (stamp at foot of first title).

First edition in French of Napier's discovery of logarithms, one of the greatest milestones in the history of Western science. It enormously advanced the art of calculation and was immediately and successfully applied by Kepler to astronomy. Cf. PMM 116 (original edition).
