Lot Essay

NO RESERVE

The figurative and landscape subjects which Richmond painted in the 1820s were dependent on Palmer's style. His closeness to Palmer at that time is also indicated by the number of portraits of Palmer he produced. In Early Victorian Portraits Richard Ormond lists eight portrait drawings and one miniature (London, 1973, pp. 354-355). A red chalk drawing of Samuel Palmer by Richmond, executed circa 1825-30, was sold in these Rooms, 16 November 2006, lot 209.
