4A CARVED CELADON PARTIAL STAND
koryo dynasty (12th century)

With circular, slightly sloped surface above a high, flared foot ending in an hexagonal base, carved on the upper surface with three elongated mythical beasts (Ch. chih lung) with arching bodies and long, looped tails separated by two clusters of clouds within an incised band of fretwork, original center bowl section missing and now ringed with a silver band--6¾in. (17.2cm.) diameter, 1 3/8in. (3.7cm.) high, two small chips to rim restored

Hoyt Collection memorial exhibition (Boston: Museum of Fine Arts, 1952), pl. 597, p. 150. A smaller cupstand with the same decoration from the Robert Moore collection was sold in these Rooms October 16, 1986, lot 34.
