The collection charts many of the courtly fashions of the 18th century, from the early baroque period to the neoclassical. Mr Höffer's collection has been formed with a passion for the designs of 18th century porcelain, and of particular interest are the large number of European pieces which have been derived from Oriental originals. These are, in some cases, sold with closely corresponding originals.

Finely painted in Schwarzlot, probably by Ignaz Preissler, with boating figures on an estuary by a fine town with spires and towers before distant mountains (broken through and restored, some areas of slight wear)

Lot Essay

See the pair of Chinese Hausmalerei saucers from the Princes Reuss Collection sold by Christie's at Gera on 26th-27th May 1998, lot 156, where the treatment of the clouds is very similar. Another teabowl and saucer in the Hans Syz Collection is illustrated by Hans Syz et. al. Catalogue of the Hans Syz Collection (Washington, D.C., 1979), no. 351, where it is also attributed to the Preissler workshop. It is possible that all four once formed part of the same service.
