A fine George III ormolu and tortoiseshell musical table clock of small size made for the Turkish market

The case with well cast foliate gilt-metal mounts applied to the bell top surmounted by a handle and flanked by four flambeau urn finials, the sides of the case with delicately fretted and engraved gilt-metal sound panels, similar quarter panels to the front and rear spandrels above the doors, the chamfered angles applied with fluted pilasters, the brass-bound base with outset angles resting on twin bracket feet, the breakarch gilt brass dial plate mattted all over and applied to the arch with an elaborate silver and silver-gilt plaque cast with an Italianate landscape within wreath garlanded with fruit and flowers, silver foliate spandrels, silvered chapter ring with Turkish numerals and blued steel hands, the centre signed John Dury Londini Fecit on a recessed silvered plaque, calendar aperture above VI, the movement with five pillars, triple gut fusees, verge escapement, hour strike on a single bell, the music playing one of two tunes on eight bells via sixteen hammers with tune selection slide to the right side of the dial, the backplate densely engraved with scrolling foliage
