A George I green japanned longcase clock, circa 1720
The hood with stepped caddy top and gilt sound frets, with inset columns and glazed side panels, the rectangular trunk door with moulded frame, decorated with birds, flowers, horses and pagodas, on stepped plinth, various damages to japanning, the 12in. brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring engraved with a star design to the centre, ringed winding holes and date aperture with chamfered borders, signed on a silvered convex disc in the arch John Berry London, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; with later seatboard, case possibly associated to dial and movement -- 100½in. (253cm.) high
