Shallow cartouche-shaped, the hinged cover and base of polished and bevelled lapis lazuli, the reeded mount with an openwork border of horse-drawn gun carriages and trophies of arms around the cover and with bands of strapwork on a matted ground at the sides, the thumbpiece chased and engraved as a trophy of arms supported by two kneeling naked male figures, restoration to lapis, mount re-glued, marked on the flange - 3¼in. (8.2cm.) long
