A MEISSEN (KPM) CHINOISERIE SQUAT BALUSTER TEAPOT AND COVER
CIRCA 1723, BLUE K.P.M. OVER CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S 43. TO BOTH PIECES
Painted in the manner of P.E. Schindler, one side with two standing Orientals, one shading a lady with a tray of fruit with a parasol, the other side with an Oriental seated at a table pouring tea, another figure kneeling behind him by a steaming urn, both on terraces with insects in flight above, within shaped quatrefoil gilt line cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels edged with gilt scrollwork and iron-red foliage scrolls, the spout with a gilt-horned satyr mask terminal, the handle with foliage terminals, both with indianische Blumen, the domed cover with similar flowers and insects (cracked about the lower part of the teapot and with restored chip, the cover with restored rim chips, finial broken and restuck, small chip to underside of cover)
