A PAIR OF CARVED POLYCHROME LACQUER ‘CHUN SPRING’ PEACH-SHAPED BOXES AND COVERS
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The top of the cover with a panel of conforming peach shape, deeply carved on a green swastika diaper ground with a bowl of precious objects, radiating red, green and yellow rays illuminating a large character chun (Spring) decorated with a roundel enclosing Shoulao and a deer in landscape. The central motif flanked by a pair of sinuous dragons amidst densely scrolling clouds, and the rounded sides of the box and cover with bats in flight amidst leafy boughs bearing peaches and blossoms. Both the interior and base are lacquered black.
