Each standing on a lotus pedestal and wearing loose robes draped over the shoulders and falling in crisp folds, the face with a serene expression framed by the elongated ears, the arms bent in front of the body with the left hand held in dhyana mudra and the right in apan mudra, the base fitted with a copper plate incised with a double vajra

The present pair of gilt-bronze figures of monks would likely have accompanied a larger, central figure, and would have been placed on either side. Compare the related treatment of the lotus base and robes seen on a larger (17.2 cm.) gilt-bronze figure of Kasyapa, dated to the 16th/17th century, illustrated by J. Spencer in Buddhist Images in Gilt Metal, Chang Foundation, Taipei, 1993, p. 153, no. 69.
