The 1813 commission from Lord Bolton to Gillows to furnish the new rooms is well documented, with both a surviving Memorandum detailing the furniture prior to delivery and a Bill preserved in the Bolton archive in Hampshire Record Office (11M49 468I). The Bill is certainly only one of several as there was considerably more furniture by Gillows than it detailed. Much of the Gillow furniture was sold in Christie's house sale last year (20-22 April 1998, lots 356-370), including a dressing-table of precisely this model but without the leather top, lot 364 (47,700).
