William Atkinson's hand-drawn design for 'Drawers for Bedroom' is held in the Scone Palace Family Archive.

This chest is embellished in the French antique fashion with trefoil-flowered pilaster tablets framed in black ribbon inlay; and its stepped plinth raised on French 'stump' feet. Such gothic trefoiled ornament would have harmonised with that of the Royal bed later executed for Queen Victoria's visit to Scone in 1842 (J. Jauncey, Scone Palace, 2003, p.39). A related chest, supplied for another apartment, is included in this sale (lot 402).
George Bullock used ebony line-inlay in a similar fashion to that seen on this chest and on lots 400, 401, 402, 404 and 405.
