Lot Essay

John Gee was active from about 1787-1824. In the early 19th century he is often called 'chairmaker and turner to His Majesty' which title he probably acquired through his partnership with Thomas Ayliffe.

He is also included in the list of master cabinet makers attached to Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, 1803, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Maney & Son Ltd, 1986.
