Cf. mile Bourgeois, Le Biscuit de Svres (n.d.), no. 599.

In 1782 d'Angivillier ordered from Pajou, Caffiri, Gois, Bernier, Dejou, Le Comte, Houdon and Clodion, a series of figures of great men which were reductions of the examples they made in marble for the new gallery in the Louvre. The terracotta model is at the Muse de Svres.

A similar example is in the Louvre museum and another was sold in these Rooms on 4 December 1985, lot 24.
