Decorated overall with views of country houses and pavilions flanked by trees, all within borders of trailing flowers and dense foliage, with steel handles to each side, the hinged lid enclosing a fitted compartmentalised interior with boxes with lids and a dressing table mirror, the front with frieze drawer, on raised shaped bracket feet

Lot Essay

The engraved decoration, including architectural scenes and nature set within broad foliate borders places, typifies the work of Vizagapatam in the late 18th century. (See A. Jaffer, Furniture From British India and Ceylon, London, 2001, pp. 204, fig. 48)
