FIRST EDITION. It was Darly's intention in the present work and his earlier New Book of Chinese Designs (1754) "to disseminate the orders and accessories of architecture to decorative artists of all kinds... and at the same time to supply architects as well as other artists with 'the graceful addition of ornament' neglected by most authors on architecture.
