[EMBROIDERED BINDING.]

4o (275 x 202 mm). 18th-century green silk, both covers richly embroidered with various colored and metallic threads and sequins, to an elaborate floral design around a central angel, holding the papel coat-of-arms, four wide gilt decorated green silk ties, red silk paste downs (minor wear to spine ends and corners).

A papal binding of great artistry and splendor, presumably intended for a letter of credence or instruction by the pope for envoys sent abroad on embassies and other missions.
