No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… Read more Aivasovskii, Russia's major marine painter, was born in Fedosia in the Ukraine in 1817. He studied under an architect in the city initially then from 1833 under M.N.Vorob'ev and F.Tanner at the Academy in St Petersburg. He travelled throughout Europe on a scholarship from 1840-4. His Isle of Capri won a gold medal in Paris in 1843 and he became an Academician in 1844. He later returned to Fedosia and settled there. During his life he was member of the Academies of Rome, Florence, Stuttgart and Amsterdam and produced over 6,000 works.
