Lot Essay

Rooker supplied illustrations as frontispieces to eleven of the twelve volumes of Fielding's Works, published in November 1783. He also provided illustrations for the 1778 six volume edition of Sterne's Tristram Shandy. Although not used in that edition the present drawing depicts a scene from Book 2, Chapter XVII.
