Palmer Cole Hayden was an integral part of the Harlem Renaissance, along with other notable African American artists such as Henry Ossawa Tanner, Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden.
The Harlem Renaissance was an African-American literary and art movement in the mid-and late 1920s. The Harlem community developed rapidly from post-World War I emigration from the South, to become the economic, political, and cultural center of African-America.
