Lot Essay

Compare with the picture, indistinctly signed, offered at Sotheby's London, 7 July 1982, lot 273, ill.
As pointed out by R. Trnek, Die Holländischen Gemälde des 17. Jahrhunderts in der Gemäldegalerie der Bildenden Kýnste in Wien, 1992, p.354, Schellinks' style is close to that of Jan Asselijn as is shown by a comparison with Asselijn's picture in the Staatsgalerie, Karlsruhe (A. Steland-Stief, Jan Asselijn, 1971, cat.no.130, plate XX).
