A Victorian oak large quarter-chiming table clock, circa 1890
The case with broken arch pediment and applied with rosette mouldings to the cornice, with inset fluted columns to the angles and pierced sound frets to the sides, the inverted breakfront base raised on block feet, the shallow-arched silvered dial with foliate scroll engraving around the Roman chapter ring and around the subsidiary rings above for chime/silent, slow/fast and Whittington/Westminster, with blued steel fleur-de-lys hands, the substantial eight day triple chain fusee movement with anchor escapement, hour strike on gong and quarter chimes on four further gongs or eight bells, with pendulum holdfast to the spot-finished back plate with unusual long retaining screw -- 22¾in. (58cm.) high
