Each of cubical form with slender bars intersecting square section horizontal stretchers and two opposing sliding portcullises, one cage with wood and enameled porcelain feeders, four perches, and a bronze plaque, the bronze hook simulating bamboo with a gilt inscription, attached to a metal plaque dated to the Gengchen cylclical year corresponding to 1880 and signed Tiechi, the other cage of similar construction with boxwood inlay but lacking the inscriptions
