Julie philosophe ou le bon patriote. Histoire à peu près véritable d'une Citoyenne active qui a été tour-à-tour agent & victime dans les dernières révolutions de la Hollande, du Brabant & de la France. N.p.: n.p., 1791.

Two volumes, duodecimo (132 x 80 mm). 5 engraved plates (of 7?). (Occasional minor browning and negligible spotting.) Contemporary half calf over yellow sprinkled boards, spines with red morocco title label gilt, in compartments with raised bands ruled in gilt, edges red, plain endpapers (sides very lightly scuffed, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: ‘No. 3684’ and ‘3218’ (press-marks on endpapers).

FIRST EDITION of this idiosyncratic erotic account of the revolutions in France and the Low Countries, published in the immediate aftermath of this great upheaval. The still-anonymous author makes frequent, knowledgeable reference to various political figures of the day, including Mirabeau, Calonne, the Comtesse de la Mothe, and others. Copies are known with a varying number of plates usually between five and seven; this copy, in excellent condition and seemingly untouched in its first binding, has five, like that described in Bilder-Lexicon. The Galitzin/Lehec copy had no plates at all. RARE: AE and ABPC record only one copy at auction: the Nordmann copy. Apollinaire Enfer, 686-687; Bilder-Lexicon II, 558 ; Dutel A-592; Gay-Lemonnyer II, 749; Pia Enfer, 718-179.
