I want my paintings to capture fragments of my life. Painting is not about fabricating lies in the work, but being able to express one’s inner world. What matters is not the painting itself, but rather to feel and embrace life.

In Fear of Drawing, Ouyang Chun employs bright colours and uninhibited, childlike strokes to depict life’s raw emotions in a candid manner. Seemingly chaotic, there is still a natural flow to the technique. The painter seems to be crying through his incarnation of the child, as though panicking about the painting not being able to live up to his expectation. Such panic is rooted in his frenzied love for painting. Highly persistent, he routinely works 16 hours a day, taking a break only when he is physically exhausted.
Ouyang Chun’s free strokes and the use of bold colours are a reflection of his boundless love for art, enabling viewers to re-experience the simplicity of childhood.
