![]() Contemporary Art/Afternoon Sale 1234 15 May 2003, 2:00 pm 20 Rockefeller Plaza, New York The afternoon session features works in an unusual array of media. Maurizio Cattelan's startling work created in 1996, Untitled, may be slightly reminiscent of the Easter bunny despite its incredibly elongated ears (lot 329). The artist often employs an animal to convey a human concept and infuse his art with a certain morbid humor. The work calls into question the gentleness and innocence of the rabbit, the difficulty of artistic creation and the impossibility of developing new and innovative ideas. Is the artist's view of life both tragic and humorous? Cattelan lets you decide. Among the works by Takashi Murakami is the large painting, Dream of Opposite World, 1999, which measures 180 x 180 cm (lot 324); and the enormous helium balloon Guru Guru, 1998, measuring 133 x 105¾ x 105¾ in. (lot 328). Photographs, playing an increasingly important role in the Contemporary art market, are represented with excellent examples by Thomas Struth (lot 348); Gregory Crewdson (lot 337); Anna Gaskell (lot 338); Thomas Ruff (lot 355); and Cindy Sherman's two works, Untitled Film Still #7, 1978 (lot 360) and Untitled #85 (lot 361).
