Post-War Art/Day
Sale 1151
14 November 2001, 10:00 am
20 Rockefeller Plaza, New York

A broad selection of masterworks by the top American and European artists from the Post-War period features drawings, paintings, sculpture and photographs with estimates ranging from $12,000 to over $300,000.

Among the highlights are a masterpiece by Richard Pousette-Dart, Number 1, 1951; a beautiful figural landscape from 1963 by Willem de Kooning titled L'Orage, a gift of the artist to one of his personal physicians; and Joan Mitchell's Maple Leave Forever, 1967, a breathtaking example of her interpretation of the landscape at Vétheuil.

Sculpture is well represented with compelling works ranging from early 1940s handcrafted works by Alexander Calder and Joseph Cornell to a monumentally industrial piece by John Chamberlain.

Warhol reigns as the king of Pop Art with a broad selection that includes a Brillo Box, several Flowers and Maos; and his unique portraits of Campbell's Soup Box, Mona Lisa, Josef Beuys, and Maria Shriver, to name a few.
