Christie's superb sale this autumn offers collectors and art connoisseurs a fine mix of Abstract Expressionist, Pop and Contemporary masterpieces, in addition to nine important pieces from the collection of Dorothy C. Miller, the pioneering curator of New York's Museum of Modern Art and one of the most influential collectors of the 20th century.
One of the works from the Dorothy C. Miller collection is Jasper Johns'
Gray Numbers from 1957 (
lot 15). This painting, one of the first from his 'numbers' series, was hand painted without the use of stencils prevalent in the later paintings.
