In celebration of the publication of Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry, Christie’s Rockefeller Center will host a special exhibition of select pieces of jewelry featured in Miss Taylor's book. The exhibition is open to the public September 30-October 14. Admission is free. Miss Taylor has personally selected over 30 pieces from her collection. Highlights include several phenomenal gifts from Richard Burton, such as the breathtaking Krupp Diamond, a 33.19 carat, Asscher-cut diamond by Harry Winston; and the heart-shaped Taj Mahal Diamond, circa 1627-1628, Miss Taylor received for her 40th birthday. The diamond was originally a gift from the Mughal Emperor Shah-Jahan or "King of the World" to Mumtaz-I-Mahal, his favorite and most beloved wife, in whose memory The Taj Mahal was built. Other stunning pieces include the elegant La Peregrina Pearl by Cartier. La Peregrina was discovered by a slave in the Gulf of Panama in the early 1500s and was given to Spain’s Prince Philip II who offered it as a wedding present to Queen Mary Tudor of England. Upon her death, it was returned to Spain to be worn by a succession of Spanish queens, including Margarita, as illustrated in a Velásquez portrait.
