拍卖简介

Gathering the finest works of the decorative arts from the 12th to the 19th century, the sale will present two mourners from the tomb of Jean de France, duc de Berry and pieces from the Orloff service that belonged to Empress Catherine II of Russia. Not only have the two alabaster mourners remained in the same French collection for more than two centuries, but they are also exceptional examples of medieval statuary. One of the earliest adoptions of the neoclassical style in silver can be seen in this soup tureen and four candlesticks from the service that was commissioned by Catherine II of Russia of Jacques and Jean-Jacques Roëttiers and given to her favourite, the Count Orloff. These will be offered alongside an exceptional collapsible Tilbury carriage accompanied by its set of trunks, made circa 1910 by Louis Vuitton and Morel for the explorer Blanche de Clermont-Tonnerre, and a very rare late 17th century molded and enameled glass medallion by Bernard Perrot representing Louis XIV or his brother the duc d’Orléans.
