(11¾ x 19¼ in.), ON PARCHMENT, written in Latin in a fine chancery hand, WITH FINE PEN-WORK DECORATION: first line of text ornamented with elaborate engrossed majuscules and interlaces, large initial "P" with scrolling floral designs, subsequent "O" with complex circular interlaces culminating in a central diamond and adorned with decorative penwork, embellished signature of scribe on fold at lower margin, papal seal (bulla) in lead (36 mm. diameter) pendant on twine, in very fine condition. Paul III, Pope from 1534 to 1549, initiated changes which launched the Counter-Reformation. -- [GREGORY XII (1327-1417)]. Manuscript document, a Papal Bull granting rights to a convent in Spain, [Rome], 5 April 1408. 1 sheet, 245 x 410 mm. (9¼ x 16¼ in.),in Spanish in a fine court hand, ON PARCHMENT, first line of text with embellished ascenders, minor soiling, minor holes at folds, seal not present. Gregory XII confirms the rights of the Abess and Nuns of the Convent of Santa Clara de Alcazar. Gregory's reign as Pope (1406-1417) coincided with the Great Western Schism in saw a rival pontiff at Avignon contesting for control of the Church. Together two items. (2)
