拍賣簡介

The April 2021 Antiquities sale offers a strong selection of works of art from across the ancient Mediterranean world. The objects represent ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Near Eastern cultures and range in date from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 6th century A.D.

We are delighted to include an important Egyptian Red Glass Royal Male Head formerly in the Resandro Collection; a unique Roman Pavonazzetto and Giallo Antico Herm that once formed part of the collection of the Baron Rochdale, Lingholm, Cumbria; and a selection of recently-rediscovered vases collected by Cornelius Vanderbilt II (1843-1899) in the 1890s and displayed at The Breakers, Newport, Rhode Island. Other highlights include a charming Mycenaean Pottery Amphoroid Krater decorated with octopuses, a large Roman Marble Mosaic adorned with desert animals in a landscape; and a group of Sumerian Clay Cuneiform Tablets from the collection of William Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney (1835-1909).
