拍賣簡介

Christie’s forthcoming Antiquities sale includes a selection of artefacts spanning the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean basin from ancient Egypt to Greece, the Roman Empire, and Near Eastern cultures from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 6th century A.D.. The sale will include a selection of antiquities from the collection of German industrialist Franz Haniel, comprising ancient glass, jewellery, and a Nolan amphora attributed to Hermonax among other Greek vases. The Egyptian section is led by a large and exceptionally fine bronze figure of the goddess Isis with her son Horus and a beautifully preserved polychrome wood coffin mask dating to the New Kingdom. The sale also features marble sculptures from the Greek and Roman periods, including a rare funerary stele in the Severe style depicting an athlete. Also being offered in the sale are two gold plaques dating to the Achaemenid period depicting a lamassu and a bull. Discovered in 1920 in Hamedan, Iran, they allow us a glimpse into the splendours of Achaemenid Persia.
