Christie’s London is delighted to launch the autumn season with a wonderful auction full of vinous treasures.
An extremely rare Masseto collection leads the sale, with every vintage from 1986 to 2020 on offer. 1986 is a the pre-release vintage which is labelled ‘Ornellaia Merlot Toscana Vino da Tavola’. Bottles of this vintage are truly unicorn wines. This rare vertical includes bottles, magnums, double-magnums and imperials in excellent condition, with the famed 1997, 2004 and 2016 vintages featuring in various formats.
Burgundian rarities feature throughout the sale, with a notable collector offering a full case of Domaine Rene Engel, Clos Vougeot 2002, alongside special back vintages of Domaine Dujac, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Rousseau, Domaine Leroy and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Domaine Meo-Camuzet, Denis Mortet, Sauzet, Domaine Leflaive, Clos de Tart, Lucien Le Moine, amongst other starry names, are also on offer from Burgundian collectors.
Bordeaux is led by a singular Château d’Yquem vertical from 1920 to 2022. Bottles and magnums of Château Haut-Brion 2000 feature, alongside strong vintages of Châteaux Mouton-Rothschild, Lafite-Rothschild, Latour and Margaux.
‘La Dolce Vita’ is a running theme in this auction, with Italian wines being presented throughout. 1990 and 2003 Tignanello lead a strong offering, with Montevertine’s Le Pergole Torte in various vintages, featuring their glorious Art Deco labels, alongside Bertani’s rare Amarones completing the selection.
