拍賣簡介

From his childhood in Cairo, Italian family life and French schooling, François Antonovich derived an insatiable curiosity which has influenced his vision as an antiquarian and collector. From 1970 he opened several galleries in Paris, and for nearly 50 years gathered furniture, sculpture, works of art, old master paintings and drawings, in the spirit of Kunstkammern or ‘cabinets of curiosities’. Mostly dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, the pieces show his taste for Renaissance works combined with borrowings from antiquity, such as the partly Louis XVIII cabinet decorated with mythological scenes. His fascination with the School of Prague, as exemplified by Jan Sadeler’s L’Enlèvement d’Europe, is also evident. A group of carved ivories, old master paintings and sculptures, including a beautiful Christ the Redeemer made in Florence circa 1500, will also be offered.
