Anastasia von Seibold, Head of Sale, Japanese Art commented: “This dynamic collection of Meiji art formed over 30 years drew extensive numbers of new international clients into the category, resulting in this exceptional total. One of the largest important Meiji private collections to come to the market in London in the last three decades, the consistent quality is reflected by the Hayashi vase which set a new auction record for this workshop, realising £217,250.”

Mark Hinton, International Head of Japanese Art commented: “We are very pleased that the continued steady growth of sales for this field at Christie’s South Kensington over the last three years has led to these May sales securing market share in London.”
