拍賣簡介

A bibliophile from an early age, Édouard-Henri Fischer was just 13 when he bought a first edition by the Swiss author Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. Later, while on a business trip to Aden, Fischer visited the house where Arthur Rimbaud was staying; he took an interest in the poet and subsequently acquired first editions of all his printed works. A passion for Paul Verlaine and Stéphane Mallarmé soon followed, thus completing the triumvirate of major Symbolist poets. This collection, which comprises over 250 manuscripts, first editions, sets of proofs, photographs and letters, includes an exceptional copy of Lettres de Jean-Arthur Rimbaud. Égypte, Arabie, Éthiopie with an autograph letter signed by the poet to his family sent from Aden and dated 19 June 1884. Further highlights include two copies of the first edition of Verlaine’s Poëmes saturniens: a copy offered by the poet to Mathilde Mauté, who he later married; and a second on Chine paper accompanied by an autograph letter signed by Victor Hugo to Verlaine. A complete autograph manuscript of Contes Indiens by Stéphane Mallarmé elegantly bound by Paul Bonet will also be offered.
